PROMISES #31

“Every promise of God is trustworthy; He protects those who seek refuge in Him.” In another translation of Proverbs 30:5, it says, “Every word of God is tested. He protects everyone who seeks shelter in Him.” Every word spoken by God can be seen as a promise from Him. With this in mind, I want to conclude this series with Jesus’ final words on the last page of the Bible. Just four words: “Yes, I am coming soon!” To this, John cried out, “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20). Paul also exclaimed: “Marana tha – come, Lord” (1 Cor. 16:22). We can join in saying, “Amen! Come, Lord.”

Then, both John and Paul end with the same reassurance: until He comes, and we see Him face to face, we know: “The grace of the Lord Jesus will be with you! My love is with you all in Christ Jesus” (1 Cor. 16:23 and also Rev. 22:21).

Naturally, we ask, why hasn’t Jesus come yet? Why the delay? It’s meaningful that, right to the end, Jesus still extends the invitation from Isaiah 55:1-3: “Everyone who is thirsty, come; everyone who desires the water of life, let them come and drink freely” (Rev. 22:17b). It’s as if Jesus is delaying His return for as long as possible, so every generation has the chance to find rest in God’s embrace. Grace is offered to humanity for as long as possible.

That He will come, we need not doubt. That we are not separated from the love of God until then, that too is a promise (Rom. 8:31-39).

Live your life to the fullest, with joy and thanksgiving. And with the anticipation: “Marana tha.” If not today, then tomorrow. I look forward with great expectation. Until then, I live in Your grace.

PRAYER: Come, Lord! And thank you for Your ever-present love.
